HELPING STRUGGLING STUDENTS WRITE ESSAYS

A workshop for teachers and tutors of students in upper elementary grades and above.

How can we help students (upper elementary and above) learn to write well? We may ourselves be good writers, but still not know how to help someone else to write. This workshop will provide concrete strategies for getting started, organizing information, brainstorming ideas, creating outlines, and writing rough drafts. We will practice writing sentences, paragraphs, and essays.

HELPING STRUGGLING STUDENTS WITH EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING

A workshop for parents, teachers and tutors.

Many students with learning differences struggle with executive functioning. For example, they may have weak organization skills, forget to do or to turn in their homework, have trouble starting/finishing projects, become overwhelmed with too much information and have poor time management skills. Learn about executive functioning and strategies that may assist adults and children in developing stronger skills.

READING CHALLENGES: DYSLEXIA

This presentation will provide information about language-based reading difficulties such as dyslexia, common red flags/ symptoms, how these affect learning, and a brief overview of teaching and intervention strategies which work best for learners with language-based reading difficulties.
